Are you ready to go house hunting in High Point and the Triad of North Carolina? The HGTV show about looking quickly at three homes and picking one in 30 minutes is not very realistic! Buying the perfect home for you and your family takes a lot of consideration and planning. I’ll guide you through the entire real estate adventure. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:
- Make a check list of your priorities and wants in your new home. Then make a “must have” list to help guide me as we pour through the MLS listings.
- If you need to sell your home, I can advise on what your home is worth.
- Know and understand your current credit score and get pre-approved for a mortgage.
- Set a realistic price range and don’t forget you’ll have some closing costs to save for as well.
- After you start looking at homes, make plenty of notes about each. Keep a comparison chart. Note any updates that would be required for each home – and if they are minor of major changes.
- Take photos and videos but ask me first to see if the current owner has given permission.
- Narrow down your list of homes and go back for a second and third visit of your finalists. Grab a friend or family member with similar taste to get another opinion.
- If you have a lot of furniture you want to move, bring some measurements with you. You can even sketch floor plan options that can completely change the look of a room.
- Be sure to peek in all closets and lift the rugs.
- Visit at different times of the day. Check out the neighborhood during the day and night.
- Check out your neighbors on the street and nearby streets. See the nearest parks, shopping, schools, etc. I can provide a list of comps of recent sales in the neighborhood to make sure the home is priced correctly.
- When you make an offer on a house, carefully consider your timeline for closing and moving.
- A house inspection is a must. I can give you some great recommendations and explain that process too.
